What's Next

Today at the restaurant Town, old friends came together over laughs, ideas, and great food. I hadn't seen Chari and Jocelyn in over a year and the reunion was refreshing. All of us are now out of school (Chari, soon to be as of May) and dealing with answering questions like, "What's next for you?" We all have no idea. I mean, we have ideas, but nothing put into action yet. I'm working at a retail store for minimum wage, Jocelyn is unemployed and soon to be traveling the world spontaneously, and Chari is jumbled with promising projects---all still on the horizon. The one thing that we do have in order, is our happiness. We each have our Bachelor's degree, we are each capable of finding our dreams, and yet, we hesitate, because we choose to.

There's a rush to find a good job, one that supports you financially, and sets you up for the rest of your life. I do want a "good" job, but one that also utilizes my passions and talents; I want a job that I'm happy in. I don't know what's next for me, but I know what direction to head, and it was nice to know that there are others out there still fumbling with the answer to "what's next?" Jocelyn wants to work with sheep. Yes, sheep. I loved listening to her talk about her passion for fashion and agriculture. She hopes to merge the two together and create a baby clothing line using materials such as wool from sheep. I encourage crazy ideas like that! Chari plans to stay in Japan for a summer and document the effects of the radiation there in the health system and in interpersonal situations. Just talking about our ideas and dreams, made them seem so reachable and real. All that we're missing is actually making the move. I have no doubt we'll get there.

Tomorrow at sunrise, if i wake up, The three of us plan to burn 2013 away. Chari had the idea to write down all the things, people, baggage, etc. that we would like to move on from---forget, even. With our lists, we will set them on fire and let them go. On my list there will be a spot for questions like, "what's next?" This will make room for living,  for just being.

Happy New Year's everyone.
